The Illumination of Venus

Venus Illuminations

For 7 hours from about 3pm (pdt) Wednesday, June 5th, 2012, Venus will prance visibly across the face of our Sun. Though only appearing as a tiny dot against the blazing Sun, let’s pay attention to the internal energy and this cycle in our own lives -- as it won’t happen again until 2117.  In the rhythmic dance of the heavens, these Venusian “occultations” have reoccurred in repeating sequences of 8, 121 1/2, 8 and 105 1/2 years through time. The last six Venus events happened in 1631, 1639, 1761,1769, 1874, 1882, 2004 and now in 2012, and are only possible in early December and June when her orbital nodes cross the Sun.

A key for each of us is to look at the period between June of 2004 and this current event. This 8-year window frames a Venus cycle in each of our lives. What particularly is happening in your relationship realm?

A New Venus: a fast past forward

Astrologically, Venus is making a conjunction with the Sun. In astrology, the conjunction is the most powerful of aspects, blending and magnifying the archetypal qualities of the planets involved. Each month, the New Moon gives us a refresher course on conjunction energy as she merges with the Sun – initiating a new cycle. Similarly, Venus conjuncting the Sun can be called a “New Venus.” And since Venus is both conjunct the Sun and visible during this “occultation,” Venusian energy is more conscious, amplified and powerful. However, she is also retrograde and eclipsing, so patterns from the past may be illuminated to help us build bridges into the future.
Venus will be right in the middle of the mutable air sign Gemini, the twins. Gemini bridges the vast polarities of human consciousness. Waving backward then forward in a rare retrograde, she will be moving like a windshield wiper across the Sun right after the full Moon lunar eclipse on June 4th, then again at the next new Moon on July 19tt. The ethers should be very juiced with Venusian nectar all spring and summer. Is it perhaps mating season for the soul? Or will the sprightly Geminian energy make for mating in the moment?

At the Essence

Venus is the ruler of peace and love, relationships and the energy of attraction and desire. She rules culture, dance, music and the arts, money, prosperity and wealth, beauty, social attitudes, and nurturing -- as well as the principles of harmony, balance and justice. I am grateful God placed Venus in our solar system, for Venus is the planet of gratitude itself and appreciation. She represents our values -- what we align with and what we are deeply thankful for. The life of our party.

Funny Money

Yes, Venus rules money, and money is funny. Money is the common currency of exchange on planet Earth, and in and of itself, is a simple medium of exchange for goods and services. The root of the word currency is current, and like energy itself, its basic principle is flow -- just like love. But the money thing on Earth has gotten way whacked out of balance. Like the saying goes, "all sorts of evils grow out of the love of money," and the indiscriminate scramble for wealth and power on planet Earth seems to be causing humanity’s demise. The Martian power drive over money has manifested in a culture of greed.  And greed is the cancer of the soul, with an epidemic reaching a level where it may only be an eventual system collapse and transformation where we find our very survival. The Venusian archetype reminds us that this universe is in perfect balance and will eventually return. We have the power to live our own lives in balance.

Venus the Lover

Mysterious Venus represents the feminine principle, the Goddess archetype, the anima, or internal creative source.  The brightest star in the sky, our sister planet rises as Morning Star and sets as the Evening Star. Yet the planet’s surface is shrouded in mysterious clouds, perhaps representing the feminine mystique.

Of course, both male and female genders have Venus in their cosmological makeup.

In mythology, Venus was Aphrodite, goddess of love and mother of Cupid, god of love.
Aphrodite was quite the sexual enigma. She had many lovers -- gods like Ares, men like Anchises --  and later was both Adonis’ lover and his surrogate mother. And as the mythological story goes, Aphrodite was born when Cronus cut off Uranus' genitals and threw them into the sea, and from the sea foam arose Aphrodite. Simply stated, Venus is a Mars magnet. As in the myth of Eros and Psyche, Venus is the initiator and Mars the activator.

2012: The Evolution of Tomorrow

The Venus transit comes at the threshold of an Earth-shaking 3-year cycle of  intensified shift as Uranus and Pluto make 7 grandly cathartic square formations.

Of course, the key to each of our individual responses to any intensified force field is our level of evolution or "vibration." At an evolved level, perhaps this time represents a spiritual opportunity for a great evocation and illumination of the powers of the heart: A grand remembrance and awakening of the eternal feminine or goddess energy within the collective psyche of humanity.

We are all involved in a catalytic period of great cleansing and global shift, with Spirit empowering us to make bold and wise choices. Thousands of celestial and karmic cycles are dining in the fires of evolution, and cataclysm is often the engine of planetary evolution. What crashes in ashes and rises from the remains will create the world of our tomorrow. May the amplified venusian rays spray peace in our lives and on Earth.

The Venus return is a wonderful opportunity to make a deep wish upon our brightest star as it passes across the life-giving Sun.
